Chief Tsabango Meets Youth Groups to Tackle Climate Issues
LILONGWE, Malawi — Senior Chief Tsabango met with youth representatives Saturday to discuss environmental conservation and economic development initiatives in his community, writes Vitumbiko Ngwira.
The meeting, held at the chief's headquarters, brought together members of Active Youth Organization for Development (AYOD) and Chiwoko Zone Youth Network to address climate change action, youth empowerment and gender equality.
Participants explored several environmental initiatives including tree planting, sustainable farming practices and the promotion of organic fertilizers to reduce carbon emissions.
The discussion also focused on encouraging young people to pursue agricultural entrepreneurship and providing training on value addition to farm products.
The collaboration between the traditional leader and youth organizations represents ongoing efforts to drive sustainable development and positive change within the community.

The Golden Girls Netball Team is an inspiring under-17 girls’ team based in Kaliyeka, Lilongwe. Established on March 26, 2024, the team has already began making waves in the local sports scene. In its debut season, the team competed in the Mpicco League and impressively finished in 4th position-a testament to the girls’ determination, discipline, and raw talent.
In 2025, the Golden Girls are preparing to compete in the Mpicco Division 2 League, marking a significant step forward in their journey. This advancement comes with greater competition and, naturally, greater needs in terms of preparation, equipment and logistics.
Recognizing the team’s potential and the powerful role sports can play in shaping the lives of young girls, Nkono adopted the team under its wing. This partnership is rooted in shared values: empowering girls, nurturing young talent, promoting gender inclusion, and contributing to the MW2063 Enabler 1 goal of developing a mindset that embraces innovation, ambition, and purpose-driven action.
Through netball, Nkono envisions more than just athletic growth. The team represents a safe space for adolescent girls to develop leadership skills, build self-esteem, stay in school, and grow into confident, empowered women ready to contribute meaningfully to society.
As part of our ongoing Mmera Mpoyamba / Chiyambi Chabwino Project, Nkono Organisation continues its mission to empower, guide, and inspire secondary school learners across Malawi. The project is designed to help students discover their purpose, unlock their potential, and develop the confidence they need to shape a brighter future.
On Friday, 21 November 2025, our team visited Kariyeka Secondary School for another impactful session. The highlight of the day was a vibrant debate titled:
“Is it important for the people of Malawi for the government to borrow from other countries?”
The debate was energetic, insightful, and incredibly impressive. Students confidently presented well-reasoned arguments, asked tough questions, and demonstrated a deep understanding of national issues. Seeing young minds articulate meaningful points with such clarity was truly inspiring. The room was filled with excitement, curiosity, and mutual learning — a reminder of how powerful the youth can be when given a platform to express themselves.
Adding even more value to the day, we were honored to host Mr. Kelvin Chizauni as our guest speaker. He delivered a motivating talk that encouraged students to start thinking about entrepreneurship and financial discipline at a young age. His message focused on developing creative business ideas and managing resources wisely to build a sustainable future. His words left a lasting impact on many of the learners.
The session was facilitated by Mathias, our dedicated Chairperson, together with Benard Mbowe from the Nkono Media Team.
We extend our appreciation to the staff and students of Kariyeka Secondary School for their warm welcome, active participation, and eagerness to grow. Nkono Organisation remains committed to nurturing young leaders and supporting the next generation of Malawian change-makers.
